James C. Exley, 95, of Ranchester passed away Jan. 7, 2013, at the Sheridan Manor.
Jim was born in Douglas on Feb. 6, 1918, to Fredrick Lawrence and Jennie (Lovitt) Exley. He attended local schools and graduated from Converse County High school (Douglas) in 1936.
He married Phyllis Helen Wollen on March 21, 1942, in Douglas and they spent most of their married lives there. To this union they had six children. Phyllis died Aug. 26, 1966.
Jim married Edith Fraley Tracy Nowling on May 2, 1970, in Casper, and they lived in the Sheridan area from 1977 until her death May 11, 1997. Edith had a large extended family which Jim enjoyed very much. He had a special relationship with Troy (Janis) Coggins, Edith’s grandson who resides in Jim’s former home in Ranchester.
Jim married Leona Sowell on Aug. 19, 2000, in Ranchester. They lived in Ranchester until January 2011, when they moved to Sheridan Square in Sheridan.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wives Phyllis and Edith, brothers Kenneth, Donald and twin brother Joseph, and great-grandsons, Brock Higgins and Alan Staroska. He is survived by his wife, Leona, and her daughter Sharon (Jerry) Browne all of Sheridan, brother Wray (Eloise) Exley of Byron, children Edith (Dudley) Higgins of Great Falls, Mont., Blythe Exley of Robert Lee, Texas, Kenneth Exley of Buffalo Gap, S.D., Dorothy (Mike) Knabjian of Chicago, Ill., Byron (Connie) Exley of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Helen (Eric) Johnson of Arlington, Texas, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at a later date for family.
